In 1978, Hicks and his friends – Dwight Slade (Dwight Slade), Ben Dunn (Ben Dunn), John C. (John S.) and Kevin Booth (Kevin Booth) began performing in comedy clubs in Houston. At first, Hicks was difficult to maintain the same idea – in fact, because of age he even needed a special permit to work. By the fall of 1978, however, William has mastered a new activity and received in full their disposal all night Thursday – while he was still in school. We took a good guy, and he, meanwhile, continued to hone his skills and, in particular, improvisation skills.

After school, Hicks began traveling across the country. After several years of execution of the same material he felt it did not grow professionally. In the 21 years of life, Billy never drank, did not smoke and did not try drugs. Gradually Hicks learned that is not alcohol and drugs make it successful performances; Billy brought popularity in the first place, the habit of constantly telling the truth – no matter how uncomfortable it might be. Hicks, however, decided not to give up smoking – burning cigarettes soon became a permanent part of its rooms.

In their speeches, Hicks talked about society, religion, politics, philosophy and personal problems. Often rolled into Bill was a black humor – indeed, it did not hurt him. Hicks actively criticized the consumerist approach to life, the top

glyadstvo, mediocrity and banality of contemporary culture, and other (as he put it) ‘instrument of the ruling class’, ‘making people stupid and apathetic’.

Hicks died of pancreatic cancer; at the time of his death he was only 32 years old. About his illness he had learned in the summer of 1993; the cancer had already had metastasized to the liver. Even a terrible diagnosis comedian managed to turn into a joke – often he would start another presentation with a hint that it will be the last. Self diagnosis, but Bill kept secret – only the closest friends and family members know about it. His last appearance, Bill held on January 6, 1994. After moving into the house of his parents, Hicks said goodbye to all the friends and – after the 14th of February – stopped talking. Before his death, the comedian had read ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ Tolkien and spend a lot of time with my parents, playing them to their favorite music and showing documentary films about their own interests.
