John Martyn


John Martin (born. John Martyn ), born Ian David MakGichi (Iain David McGeachy) (September 11, 1948 – January 29, 2009) was a British guitarist, singer and performer of his own songs. Over forty years of his career, John has released twenty studio albums and worked with musicians such as Eric Clapton, David Gilmour and Phil Collins. He is described as a “mesmerizing guitarist and singer, whose music had blurred the lines between folk, jazz, blues and rock”.

Martin was born on Bichkroft Avenue, New Malden, Surrey, England. John’s parents, both opera singers, divorced when he was five, and he spent his childhood in England and Scotland. Most of the time John spent with his grandmother. The city of Glasgow, he became tied when he entered the Academy Sholends.

Martin began his professional musical career at the age of seventeen, led Imlaha Hamish (Hamish Imlach). John played a mixture of blues and folk, which resulted in a unique style made him a key figure on the London folk scene of the mid-60s. He signed a contract with Island Records (Island Records) Chris Blackwell in 1967 and released his first album, titled London Conversation, next year.

It was followed by the album, The Tumbler, where John took a step in the direction of jazz.
