Such hits as “Rock and roll”, “I’m the leader of the gang”, “Do you wanna touch me”, “I love you love me love” and still able to stir up any audience. Gary Glitter has become known for a wide audience in 1972, though his creative career started much earlier. Paul Gadd (Glitter real name) in the early ’60s played in London clubs of rock’ n ‘roll classics and sugary ballads.

The first, who drew attention to it, became a producer Robert Hartford Davis, the guy helped conclude a contract with “Decca”. From that moment Gadd began performing under the name Paul Raven. A particular success with the public when it is not used, but still occasionally appear on television. An important point in a creative way the artist was his acquaintance with producer and arranger Mike Linder. Paul joined the “Mike Leander Show Band”, but six months later the band broke up.

Raven gathered a new team, “Boston international”, but due to the Linder lost from time to time record with him. In the late 60’s by the pseudonym Paul Mundy tried to perform covers of George Harrison and Sly Stone, but success did not come. Only in 1971, Paul and Mike stumbled upon a gold mine called glam rock. Their first creation in a new way was the famous “Rock and roll”. Change of style led to another change of name of the stage and Paul (now finally) became Gary Glitter.

The public saw through “Rock and roll”immediately, and the song took six months to get the second place in the British charts, and enter into the US top ten. But the next year was marked by Glitter and charts invariably present his songs such as”I Did not Know I Loved You (Till I Saw You Rock and Roll)”, “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah)”,”Hello Hello, I’m Back Again”. The first two albums, Gary was a great success, and its first concert in the capital’s “London Palladium” turned out to be sold out.

By the time corresponding to the image of glitter found: 30 he had a bright shiny costumes and 50 pairs of shoes at a hefty silver platform. In the summer of 1973, Gary gave the first British chart-topper “I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am)”and glittermaniya covered the whole country. Even much dropped out of the general glitter sound ballad”Remember me this way”ranked third. Until 1975, Gary continued to bombard the charts of things such as”Always yours”, “Oh, yes! You’re beautiful”, “Love like you and me”, “Doing alright with the boys”. The end came suddenly when the next single, “Papa ooh mow mow”, took only 38 place.

To top ten Glitter spoiled this fact has been so strong blow that the singer was drinking with grief. The next few years carried for him in a blur, and when the alcoholic haze dissipated, Glitter was in front of a completely different, post-punk audience. 80s singer spent in small clubs, but by the end of the decade still managed to recover some of its former success, republish your back catalog. And all would do, but at the end of the 90 surfaced unflattering details of the sex life Glitter and former hero overnight turned into a pariah. Most fans have turned away from him, and the actor landed in jail.
