He became interested in theater at the University of Oklahoma, which is also leaving soon, going in search of fame in Los Angeles. Higher education actor still received at the California Institute of the Arts, but that was much later. Like most Hollywood actors held, first working in television with small roles in television series and television movies subtle. The first work in cinema was a small role in Michael Crichton thriller “Coma”(1978). In the next few years, playing several small roles in low-budget films inconspicuous. The most notable work in this period had a role in the historical drama by Philip Kaufman’s”Right Stuff”(1983). The absence of these years, serious roles actor compensated participation in various theatrical productions. A significant impetus to the career of the actor gave a brilliantly starred in James Cameron’s sci-fi thriller”The Abyss”(1989). The role in this film brings the world-famous actor and several invitations to high-budget projects. Since then, he appeared in more than seventy paintings. For the role in four of them nominated for”Oscar”: Apollo 13 (1995), “The Truman Show”(1998),”Pollock”(2000) and”The Hours”(2002). However, this is not the only noteworthy picture with the actor. Among the most prominent projects involving Harris:”Needful Things”(1993),”The Rock”(1996),”Stepmom”(1998),”Enemy at the Gates”(2001),”A Beautiful Mind”(2001),”Justified cruelty “(2005),”National Treasure: Book of Secrets”(2007). In the privacy of the actor demonstrates consistency uncharacteristic of Hollywood superstars, for more than 20 years, living with his only wife and mother of his child – actress and producer Amy Madigan (“Dream Girl”, “Living the winter”), with whom he met in 1981.
