Sir Ian Holm (full name – Ian Holm Cuthbert) was born in Goodmayes, which has now become part of London. His parents were from Scotland, and both have been associated with medicine: his mother was a nurse and his father was a psychiatrist known for being one of the first doctors who used electroshock therapy. When his parents retired, they took the whole family in Worthing, where Ian was playing in amateur theater. Through a chance meeting with Henry Beyntonom, at the time known provincial actor, he was able to enroll in the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. While still a student at RADA, he began to play in Stratford, where he stayed after graduation in 1953.

By the time Ian Holm began acting in films and on television, he was already a star of the theater held “Royal Shakespeare Company & raquo ;. In 2001, he played a major role in the film”From Hell”and in the same year came the blockbuster”The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring & raquo ;, in which he played the hobbit Bilbo. After 2 years, it can be seen in the third part of the famous trilogy –”Return of the King”.

In the life of the actor had four marriages, three of which ended in divorce. His third wife was actress Penelope Wilton, best known for films “Shaun”(2004),”Match Point”(2005),”Pride and Prejudice”(2005). Together with Ian, they appeared in the TV series”Borrowers” (1992). He is currently married to artist Sophie de Stempel. He has five children and all of them in one degree or another are related to show business.
