Kunal Kapoor is an Indian actor who appears in Hindi cinema. Kunal has been seen in the critically and commercial acclaimed film Rang De Basanti for which his performance received a nomination in the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award category (2006).

Kapoor began his career as an assistant director on the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Aks. He began his acting career training under theatre legend Barry John.

He continued his theatre career with Motley, a theater group run by Naseeruddin Shah.He made his movie debut starring opposite Tabu in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities.

Kunal later featured in Don 2 which was a commercial successful film (2011).

Kunal Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood as an assistant director for Rakesh Mehra’s Aks.

Later he got into Bollywood as an actor starring opposite Tabu in Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities (2004). The film did not do well at the box office. Kunal Kapoor came into prominence with his following film Rang De Basanti (2006).

The film was critically and commercially successful, and it was India’s official entry to the Oscars and the Bafta’s. Kapoor’s performance was acclaimed and he received a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award nomination.

Kapoor has done a number of plays and has worked with Motley, Naseeruddin Shah’s theatre group. He has also done a couple of ads. Kunal Kapoor’s first 2007 film release Hattrick failed to do well at the box office.

His next two films both of which were under the Yashraj banner are Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Aaja Nachle (2007). Both failed to do well at the box office but helped his career reach new heights.

Kunal Kapoor is currently the brand ambassador of Indian Terrain and Thums Up.

With actress Gwyneth Paltrow, he is the face of the Save the Children charity. Though his films have not done as well as expected, his popularity among female fans continues to grow.

He is known to be very selective about the work he does and had a release in National Award-winning director Rahul Dholakia’s Lamhaa after two years, for which he received critical acclaim.

Kapoor voiced the Indian god Rama in Mahayoddha Rama, directed by Raizada Rohit Jaising Vaid. The film is an animated mythological movie based on the Ramayana.

In 2009, Kapoor started writing weekly columns for HT City, the lifestyle supplement of the Hindustan Times. These columns ended in November 2009 but still appear online on the social network Desimartini.

He played a pivotal role in the Shahrukh Khan starrer Don 2 for which he received acclaim from audiences and critics.

He will appear in Anurag Kashyap’s next film, where he, will play Raj Comics’ superhero Doga. Kapoor was scheduled to begin shooting a romantic comedy film in early 2011.

He will appear in Chamkila, a biography of popular Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila.
