Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh Bhavnani is an actor in Bollywood who recently completed 3 years as a lead actor in the Hindi film industry. He was born in Mumbai on 6th of July, 1985. His popular cousins are Sonam Kapoor (a top actress and daughter of Anil Kapoor) and producer Rhea Kapoor.

Ranveer was always interested, passionate and inclined towards the field of acting and watching Bollywood films would be his favorite hobby. He would dance, sing and perform during birthday parties and social gatherings during his school days. He would even participate in school plays, debates, speaking contests, dance shows, and more. However, no information has been yet released about which school he went to.

He studied in H. R. College, Churchgate, Mumbai and then went to study at Indiana University, USA where he focused his attention on completing his Bachelor of Arts. During his college days he felt that becoming an actor in Bollywood would be rather difficult for him without any major contacts (at that time) so he decided to follow his second dream – creative writing.

However, once he got back to India he started to work as a copywriter in leading ad agencies (2007 to 2010) and once again started chasing his dreams of becoming a Bollywood lead actor and took his chances by auditioning for several roles during those 3 years but without any real success. Then in early 2010 he auditioned for a lead role in a Hindi movie called ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ which was to be produced by Yash Raj Films. He got the part of Bittoo Sharma in the movie and the rest is history.

Ranveer Singh does not look like the stereotypical Bollywood hero but his acting prowess is a cut above the rest that has earned a place for him in the highly competitive Bollywood movies. His latest flick, Ram Leela has crossed the highly consequential Rs. 100 crore collections at the box office.

Though Ranveer Singh’s is Sonam and Rhea Kapoor’s cousins, things just didn’t fall into place when he set out to become an actor. He made several rounds to producers and directors’ offices with his portfolio. Finally, after three years of struggling, he landed the lead role in Band Baaja Baarat produced by Yash Raj Films.

There is an interesting anecdote about his debut movie, Band Baaja Baaraat. Though he enacted the role with near perfection, his body language was not really like the typical Delhi boy since Ranveer Singh was born and raised in Mumbai. So the director, Maneesh Sharma packed him off to Delhi for a few weeks to learn about the city and its people.

Maneesh Sharma, the director of Band Baaja Baaraat was so impressed with Ranveer Singh’s performance in his debut movie that he was immediately cast in the director’s next movie, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl which was about a guy who dates (and cons) several girls for a living.

There were rumors flying around that Ranveer’s father Jagjit Singh Bhavnani was instrumental in getting him a big break in Bollywood by paying Yash Raj Films the sum of Rs.10 Crores to make a movie where his son would be playing the lead role. Ranveer, however, strongly denied all these allegations and said that bribing such a big movie production house would take way more than 10 Crores.

His acting skills and the runaway success of his first movie killed off all those rumors of him giving Yash Raj Films a sum of Rs.10 Crores to act in the lead role of their next movie. Today, he is known as a highly talented actor who commands the respect of seniors and film critics while enjoying a rapidly growing fan following online.

He built a well toned body with six pack abs for his most recent movie release ‘Ram-Leela’ and youngsters around the country have been trying to imitate his fitness routine, diet, looks and overall presentation. He is truly an inspiration for the male youth of India.

Ranveer, a Mumbai lad, was born on July 6, 1985 as Ranveer Singh Bhavnani. After graduating from the Indiana University in the States he did a brief stint as a copy writer for some advertisement agencies in Mumbai. Creative writing is his great passion, next to performance arts. Although his mind was fixed on movie acting, it was very much difficult to sneak into Bollywood which is a stronghold of kith, kin and connections.

Luckily for him, because of his fresh face and a simple boy-next-door looks, he got spotted by the famous Yash Raj Films. He played the role of a hard-core Delhi-ite in his debut film ‘Band Baja Baraat’ (2010) against Anushka Sharma. This block-buster movie won him Filmfare’s Best Male Debut Award.

With this break into Bollywood, the movie acting offers started pouring onto his lap. He was again paired alongside Anushka Sharma in Yash Raj Film’s next movie ‘Ladies v/s Vicky Bahl’ (2011) although he failed to recreate the magic of his earlier debut film.

The ‘Ram-Leela’ (2013) is the superb, action-packed romantic movie that really catapulted Ranveer Singh to the hall of fame. He paired against everyone’s heartthrob Deepika Padukone in this movie. It is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo Juliet’ story with a small-town Gujarati aura. As a happy-go-lucky, yet heroic and chivalrous, this lovelorn youngster captivates the audience. He built his powerful abs with months-long hard work and effort especially for this movie.
