The famous fashion designer Oscar de la Renta (Oscar de la Renta) born July 22, 1932 in the Dominican Republic. At age 18 he moved to Madrid to study painting at the Academy of San Fernando. Oscar wanted to become an abstract painter, but later began to earn money by drawing illustrations for fashion magazines.

The real success, thanks to which Oscar was able to establish itself in the fashion world, brought a dress created for his friend – daughter of the American ambassador in Spain. The dress became widely known thanks to the fact that it appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1960.

Soon, Oscar de la Renta took a job in the Spanish fashion house Balenciaga. In 1961 he moved to Paris and joined the fashion house Lanvin, then moved to the United States, where he worked with the fashion house Elizabeth Arden. In 1965, the designer opened his own fashion house.

A distinctive feature of the things Oscar de la Renta – it is clear, concise, precise silhouettes and luxurious fabrics. Designer dresses were popular among US First Lady Nancy Reagan, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush. His last work was a designer wedding dress of the bride of George Clooney Amalalamuddin.

In addition to the collections of clothes designers develop underwear collection, creating accessories (jewelry, bags, glasses) and household goods.

In 1977, de la Renta released his first perfume – Oscar. In 1991, he was recognized as the most successful fragrance decade.

In the periods from 1973 to 1976 and from 1986 to 1988 de la Renta held honorary president of the Council of American Fashion Designers.

Oscar de la Renta showed himself as a philanthropist. Over the years, he was part of the Soviets Metropolitan Opera (Metropolitan Opera), Carnegie Hall (Carnegie Hall), consisted of several charities, for example, “New Yorkers for Children”(New Yorkers for Children),”American Society” (America & rsquo; s Society), and others.

In 1967 and 1968 Oscar de la Renta received the highest award of the fashion world Coty Award, and in 1973 his name was inscribed in the Hall of Fame Coty.

In 2009 he was awarded the prestigious Superstar Award for his invaluable contribution to the development of the American fashion industry at the 26th annual ceremony “Night of Stars”, organized by the Fashion Group International. He also received awards in France, Spain and at home in the Dominican Republic. De la Renta is a knight of the Legion of Honor.

Oscar de la Renta has been married twice. In 1967, he married Françoise de Langlade, which at that time was the editor of the French magazine Vogue. In 1983, the wife of the designer died of bone cancer. In 1990, the designer married the second time, his choice was a philanthropist Annette Reed. Native children at Oscar de la Renta was not.

In 2006, the designer was diagnosed with cancer.

October 20, 2014 Oscar de la Renta, died at age 82.
