Luther Vandross Ronzon was born on April 20, 1951 in the Lower East Side, Manhattan, New York, USA. He began playing the piano at three years and grew up in a musical family, which moved to the Bronx when he was thirteen. Luther’s sister, Patricia, sang in the vocal group ‘The Crests’, which in 1958 with the hit ‘Sixteen Candles’ came in second place of the charts, but by the time she left the band.
