The Canadian James ‘Jimmy’ Doohan (March 3, 1920 – July 20, 2005 gg.) was the favorite hero of the audience – Montgomery ‘Scotty’ Scott of the television and film series ‘Star Trek’ (Star Trek); as well as students – when James worked at the radio station.

James Doohan was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, and was the youngest of four children of William Patrick and Sarah Dukhanov, who emigrated to Canada from Bangor, Northern Ireland, in 1920. Father James worked as a veterinarian, pharmacist, and his mother a homemaker. According to some estimates, in 1923 the father of Doohan managed to get a new kind of high-octane gasoline. Doohan himself in his autobiography in 1996 he recalls not the most pleasant moments: his father was suffering from alcohol dependence, and because of this, the whole family suffered.

After a while, the family moved to Dukhanov Sarnia, Ontario, where Doohan enrolled in high school. After school he went to study at a technical school, where he received excellent marks in mathematics and science.

James called the war and was assigned to the 102nd Royal Canadian Cadet Corps.

After the war, James turned to acting career. Not getting much pleasure from working in radio, reciting ‘radio drama’ Doohan began to study Shakespeare.

The first work of James got on the radio show wave CBC 12 January 1946. Then he began to study actor’s craft in Toronto and later won two grants to study at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York, where his classmates became Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen. Doohan always had a special gift – he could easily master any foreign accent. When he came to audition for the role of Montgomery Scott, chief engineer of the ‘USS Enterprise’ in the movie ‘Star Trek’, the spirit demonstrated several different accents. The creator of the picture, Gene Roddenberry asked what emphasis prefers himself an actor, what Doohan said: ‘Well, if you need an engineer, it’s better to be a Scot, as (I speak from personal experience), the world’s best engineers – a Scottish!’.

At the beginning of work on the script, it was assumed that the character Scott will not reside in the series, and will occasionally appear in some episodes, but in the work of James Leonard Nimoy (Spock) and DeForest Kelley (Dr. McCoy), Scott It has become more important and weighty character than at the beginning. As a result, Montgomery has grown to the level of the leading character – Captain James Kirk, who played William Shatner. According to the plot, it is clear that over time, Lieutenant-Commander Scott was appointed as the third member of the team ‘Enterprise’, so from time to time he trusted the ship. Often, Scott appeared in more storylines (when, for example, refuses to warp drive space fails teleportation device or a problem occurs in the pipes Jeffery). Through the prism of Scott’s character, reveals and other heroes. So, gradually manifested ambition Kirk and his tactical moves in different situations.

Because of the ‘Star Trek’ television series and came out, and a few pieces of full-length feature films, the viewer can trace the growth of the character of James, a change in its position and the changes in himself.
