It is also known as Leo Nichols, Dan Savio.

Ennio was born in a family of professional jazz trumpeter Mario Morricone and housewives Libera Ridolfi. He was the eldest of five children.

In 1938, when Ennio was 9 years old, he entered the Conservatory of St. Cecilia in Rome, where he studied for a total of 11 years, received three diplomas – trumpet in 1946, class orchestra (fanfare) in 1952 and composition class in 1953.

When Ennio was 16 years old, he took the place of the second tube in the ensemble Alberto Flamini, in which he played before his father. Together with an ensemble of Ennio earned by playing in nightclubs and hotels in Rome.

Soon, he continued his studies at the conservatory, began to compose music, making arrangements of folk songs, began writing music for radio, television and the theater.

Since the mid-1950s, Morricone began composing and arranging music for the movie, in the credits, however, specifies the names of the more famous composers.

At the same time, he worked for Gianni Morandi, and later worked for Paul Anka arrangement.

Treatment of music for radio and concerts he held until 1960, and in 1960, Morricone began arranging music for the TV show.

In 1961, he screens out reel of film «Il Federale», which is considered the first film, the work on which was the composer Ennio Morricone.

In 1964 he began his collaboration with filmmakers Sergio Leone and Bernardo Bertolucci. The huge success of the film “A Fistful of Dollars,” Leone staged his classmate, became a springboard for Ennio Morricone (composer and even hid under the pseudonym Leo Nichols). When you create the sound design of the film, he used unusual instruments – electric guitars, bells, flute Panova. It is not surprising that soon the composer was invited many well-known directors – for many years of his work, he worked with Gillo Pontecorvo, Mauro Bolognini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Mike Nichols, Roman Polanski, Brian De Palma, Pedro Almodovar.

Since 1964, Morricone has worked at the record company «RCA», where hundreds of songs arranged for celebrities such as Gianni Morandi, Mario Lanza, Miranda Martino and others.

Having become famous in Europe, Morricone was invited to work in Hollywood cinema. In America, Morricone wrote the music for the films of famous directors like Roman Polanski, Oliver Stone, Brian De Palma.

During his long and prolific career, he has written music for more than 400 films and television series, filmed in Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Russia and the United States. Morricone has admitted that he does not remember exactly how he created the soundtrack, but it turns out that he wrote an average of one a month.

As a film composer, he was five times nominated for “Oscar”and in 2007 he received the”Oscar”for outstanding contribution to cinema. In addition, in 1987 for the music for the film”The Untouchables”, he was awarded the “Golden Globe”and”Grammy”. The musical taste of Ennio Morricone is very difficult to accurately describe.
