Best known for presenting Dancing On Ice, The One Show and Daybreak, Christine Bleakley, 35, is a regular guest host on This Morning, filling in for Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. She is currently filming an ITV documentary on Roman Britain. Christine has been engaged to former Chelsea footballer Frank Lampard since 2011. They live in Fulham, south-west London.

Did leaving Daybreak allow you to spread your wings?

I’m really loving the diverse nature of the telly work I’m doing. At the moment I’m filming a documentary about the history of Britain. I’ve been looking at how the Romans changed our country and influenced how we live today.

It’s a world away from some of the shows you’ve hosted…

Before I moved to London, this was the sort of thing I did. I love getting out and chatting to people. As much as the celeb thing is great, it’s more entertaining to talk to the man on the street.

Supposedly we were at war with Emma Willis, but that was absurd. Emma is a great girl and a good friend of mine.

How did you enjoy your stint with Holly Willoughby on This Morning?

It was fantastic. I know Holly away from work and we get on like a house on fire. It didn’t feel like a job.

There was a rumour that you and Emma Willis were battling it out for Holly’s job while she was on maternity leave…

Supposedly we were at war, but that was absurd. There’s always so much rubbish printed about me. Emma is a great girl and a good friend of mine.

You’re involved in tomorrow’s Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games…

I’m an ambassador for its Active Kids scheme and, with the help of well-known athletes, 50 children will be involved in sports day-style activities.

Do you get over to Northern Ireland much to see your family?

Oh yes, at least once a month. If I can’t get back, they’ll come to visit us.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Yes, I do. Frank and I would both say that. You obviously have to work at your relationship, but that initial chemistry has to be there.

What’s the best showbiz party you’ve been to?

Any night out with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield is amazing.

Do you get odd fan mail?

I’ve had boxer shorts posted to me. Why would anyone do that?

What’s been the most embarrassing moment of your career?

I hosted Children In Need for BBC Northern Ireland. I’d had a tummy bug and been ill, so they put a bucket next to the stage and I kept having to run off. It wasn’t pretty.

Christine Bleakley is inviting families to attend Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games tomorrow, where elite athletes will be joined by children on The Mall, London. Visit british athletics.org.uk/british-athletics-series/sainsburys-anniversary-games-ii .
