Charles Perrault (Charles Perrault) (January 12, 1628, Paris – May 16, 1703, Paris) – famous French writer, storyteller, poet and critic. Member of the French Academy from 1671.

The son of a judge of the Paris parliament Pierre Perrault and was the youngest of his seven children (born with it, and twin brother, François, who died after 6 months). Of his brothers, Claude Perrault was a well-known architect, author of the eastern facade of the Louvre (1665 – 1680).

He studied at the University Colle & # 769; as Beauvais, who, however, gave up, not survival rates. I bought a license for a lawyer, but soon tired of judgeships, clerk went to my brother architect Claude Perrault, and gained the confidence to Jean Colbert, so that in the 1660s it largely determines policy court of Louis XIV in the arts. Thanks to Colbert, in 1663 he was appointed secretary of the newly formed Académie des Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres; He also was the general inspector of the royal buildings Syurintendatstva. After the death of Colbert (1683), he fell into disgrace and lost pay him a pension as a writer, and in 1695 and lost his place of secretary.

In 1697 published a collection of “Tales of Mother Goose, or stories and fairy tales of bygone days with the teachings & raquo ;. The collection contains 9 stories representing a literary adaptations of folk tales (believed to have heard from the nurse’s son Perrault) – except one (“tuft-Rica”), composed by Perrault. This book is widely glorified Perrault outside literary circles. In fact, Perrault introduced the folk tale in genres”high” literature.

“Tales”contributed to the democratization of literature and influenced the development of the world fabulous tradition (brothers B. and J. Grimm, L. Teak, Hans Christian Andersen). Interestingly, their tales Perrault published not under his own name and the name of his 19-year-old son Perrault d & rsquo; Armankura, trying to keep his already established reputation against accusations of working with the”low”genre. Perrault’s son, to add to his name the name of his father bought the castle Armankur, tried to get the secretary to the”Mademoiselle” (niece of the King of Princess of Orleans), which was dedicated to the book.

In the XX century, there was a discussion about the authorship of fairy tales in which tried to prove that fairy tales really written Perros-son. Yet, apparently, the traditional version of the authorship is more likely.

On the set of fairy tales Perrault Opera “Cinderella”J. Rossini,”Bluebeard’s Castle”Bartók, Ballet”Sleeping Beauty”Tchaikovsky,”Cinderella” Prokofiev and others.

It is known that more Perrault collected folk tales trying their “protect”and save. The sources, unfortunately, little known. Perhaps the problem is known similarities of various fairy tales and decides cobirateli different tales carried away a fairy tale, and took her to his collection. So it happened that similarity tales. For example:”The Sleeping Beauty”Perry and”Shipovnichek” Brothers Grimm. These writers were collectors of fairy tales and taken to a collection of folk tale. And these similarities come.

In Russian fairy tales Perrault first came to Moscow in 1768 under the name of “Tales of the sorceress with moralizing”.
